Hillcrest Cottage is a beautifully refurbished Cotswold holiday cottage near Tetbury which sleeps up to three adults or two adults and two children, in two well-appointed bedrooms. The ground floor is made up of an open plan living/dining room flooded with natural light on three sides and a stylish kitchen and utility room. Upstairs, along with the two bedrooms is a modern family bathroom with charming roll top bath.

This two bedroom holiday cottage in Avening is ideally suited to a small family or group of friends who enjoy the countryside. The Cotswold accommodation is laid out as follows:

StayCotswold is a marketing agent and therefore does not own any of the cottages listed on our website. In terms of cleaning and maintenance, the properties within our portfolio are managed by a third party property manager or the property owner – your pre-arrival email will contain confirmation and contact details for the person managing your property. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.

For bookings commencing more than 8 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 8 weeks prior to arrival.

All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.

Location Information

Hillcrest Cottage is located in the quaint village of Avening, three miles from Tetbury and Nailsworth where you will find a range of independent shops and cafes. In the village are two pubs, The Queen Matilda offering local ales and traditional pub food, and The Bell serving Indian and offering a takeaway service. During your stay, be sure to visit the world famous Westonbirt Arboretum or Minchinhampton Common. If you are a keen golfer, you are minutes from Michinhampton Golf Club where you have the choice of three courses!

For your shopping essentials, there are a selection of supermarkets in both Tetbury and Nailsworth.
Avening is nestled in the south of the Cotswolds, so enjoy a trip into nearby Cirencester or head out for the day to Bristol, Bath or Burford, all within an hour's drive.

Security Deposit

A security deposit of £150 is required for bookings at this property. This amount will be pre-authorised on your credit card 7 days prior to your arrival date, providing no damage is reported the pre-authorisation will be released 5 days after your departure. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival.

A semi comfortable stay at Hillcrest Cottage. Accomodation is quite small but okay for 2 people. The Main bedroom has a large double but the mattress is a little lumpy and the metal bed squeaks. The smaller room has a double with not much space to walk around to get to the wardrobe. The heating is excellent and we were able to adjust it easily. We planned to have a fire on the first night but no wood was left for us. We contacted the relative owner and ensured we had some for only 1 night. We found the clothes rack to dry our clothes was broken and asked for it to rectified. The clothes airer was propped up the next day in the laundry, it was still broken so we were unable to place anything heavier than socks to dry on it to be honest. No effort was made to replace it during our stay. I think some attention to clearing out old pantry staples needs to be addressed. The coffee was old and some packets like sugar were left open in the cupboard. The 2 sofas were small so it wasn't a relaxing space. The window frames need cleaning as there is black mould on the inside. The parking space outside was just enough for our Kia Sportage - anything bigger- wouldn't fit. I don't feel as if we had value for money unfortunately. Disappointed sadly. 5/10

Thank you, Lisa, for your review of Hillcrest Cottage. We are delighted that you found the heating to be excellent. We are sorry to hear that you found the mattress to not be to your level of comfort sadly, mattress comfort is down to personal preference and not everyone will find the beds to their liking, but we will continue to monitor any feedback received from guests. The property manager has confirmed that he fixed the clothes rack during your stay once he had been notified that there was a problem with it and that the pantry items are checked regularly between changeovers to ensure that there is an initial supply of tea, coffee and sugar for guests. Sadly as you had the heating on a constant high temperature this caused condensation and for water to form around the window frames, this can be prevented by wiping the windows down or keeping the heating on a lower temperature. The property provides adequate seating for up to 4 guests with two two-seater sofas in the living area. We do advertise the property as having off street parking for 1 car with further on street parking available nearby as well as having only a starter supply of wood and kindling for the wood burning stove. We do hope that overall, you enjoyed your time exploring the Cotswolds.

The furnishings and decor are all beautiful in this cottage and we had a really lovely 4 night stay. We were a little unlucky that the closest pub was closed for refurbishment and the next had no food due to illness, but clearly not the fault of the cottage! The only real issue is the parking. It's probably ok if you come in 1 small vehicle, but my sister and I travelled from different parts of the country and met there. I was fortunate to be greeted by the property manager/owner who advised that 1 car could go on the drive and the other behind it on Mill Lane. We put the smallest car on the little drive but after only half an hour of the other car being parked in Mill Lane there was hammering on the door and an aggressive neighbour complained. I diffused the situation by being polite to him and moving the car but it's fairly clear that the neighbours don't like this property being a holiday rental as he said he was sick of this. We weren't really relaxed the whole of the first evening as a result of being shouted at by a strange man. Another neighbour regularly uses the cottage bin and looks in through the window as she does! Such a shame, because other than the parking situation / neighbours the cottage is really lovely!
