On the outskirts of the village sits Faringdon Folly, the last major folly to be built in England back in the 1930s. From the top of the tower visitors can enjoy breath-taking views across five counties and on foot you can explore the folly woodlands, spotting the sculptures and wildlife hidden amongst the plants and trees.

Nearby Buscott Park is a National Trust house and gardens, remains the family home of Lord Faringdon, and hosts the family art collection. The extensive gardens are a must see on a warm day, from the unusual Italianate formality on show in the splendid water gardens to the spring bulbs in bloom in the Four Seasons garden, visitors will not be disappointed.

It’s a great place for walkers and their dogs to walk miles as there is a selection of eight walks on the Faringdon walk cards, produce by a local group of volunteers back in 2005. The FaringdonFernham and Little Coxwell route takes in spectacular views of the White Horse Hill, or the FaringdonRadcot and Littleworth loop takes in the River Thames, The Swan close to Radcot Lock and the hamlet of Littleworth.

A day trip to the City of Oxford is most certainly worth the journey, to marvel at the architecture of the 38 colleges which led poet Matthew Arnold to give the nickname ‘City of Dreaming Spires’. You can go behind the scenes on a tour of Oxford University, or younger visitors may enjoy being spell-bound on a Harry Potter locations tour. On the outskirts, you’ll find the UKs oldest botanic gardens covering a stunning 130 acres of woodland, or you can journey out of the city centre on a two and a half hour river cruise, taking in stunning scenery and historic buildings.
