Enjoy a self-catering cottage holiday in The Wychwoods

The ancient Wychwood Forest in the Evenlode Valley has given its name to not one, but three villages! Shipton-under-Wychwood is a perfect base for exploring the surrounding quintessential Cotswold towns of Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh, Bourton-on-the-Water and Woodstock. Equally, Milton-under-Wychwood is immediately west of the village, and slightly further afield, Ascott-under-Wychwood is just over a mile to the east.

If you jump in the car you can be in Chipping Camden within thirty minutes where you can enjoy the plentiful walks along The Cotswolds Way – a national trail spanning some 100 miles of rolling hills and villages.

Families should make the drive over to the Cotswold Farm park, owned by Countryfile’s own Adam Henson. Their adventure playground is an absolute must where you’ll be spoilt for choice with zip wires, the muddy kitchen, bouncy pillows, and a woodland walk, ideal for a spot of den building.

A unique example of a Folly Tower can be found at nearby Broadway Tower, where a climb to the top will reward you with breath-taking views across sixteen counties. Pop into Tower Barn before you leave to grab a coffee and choose a gift in their lovely on-site shop.

Closer to home you can easily spend a day at the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens spotting wildlife in one of the country’s largest zoological collections where you can come eye to eye on the giraffe walk. Before wandering around the sprawling 160 acres of gardens to take in the walled gardens and stunning collection of mature trees.

With much to see and do in the area, guests can relax knowing they are staying in a dog-friendly holiday cottage where every care has been taken to provide a home from homestay.
