Gassons View is a quintessential Cotswold stone cottage which sleeps 8 guests, in four well-appointed bedrooms, with two family bathrooms. Throughout the cottage is a plethora of charming original features including a cosy open fireplace. These period features have been combined with a modern and airy kitchen complete with a skylight and bi-fold doors letting in ample natural light. Outside, the patio is a little suntrap, ideal for alfresco dining in the warmer months and relaxing with loved ones. Gassons View is located in the pretty countryside village of Filkins, an idyllic location for a countryside escape with one medium sized dog.

Booking & Payment

StayCotswold is a marketing agent and therefore does not own any of the cottages listed on our website. In terms of cleaning and maintenance, the properties within our portfolio are managed by a third party property manager or the property owner – your pre-arrival email will contain confirmation and contact details for the person managing your property. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.

For bookings commencing more than 8 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 8 weeks prior to arrival.

All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.

Location Information

Gassons View is a lovely dog friendly cottage situated in the quaint village of Filkins in the North Cotswolds. Filkins is home to a traditional community shop and the award winning village pub, The Five Alls, serving an array of delicious home-cooked freshly prepared food, cracking wines and real ale. The village is surrounded by open farmland and countryside, ideal for walking.

For your shopping essentials, there is a Co-op in Lechlade and several larger supermarkets in Brize Norton including a Morrisons.
Close by are the popular towns of Burford and Lechlade, both sporting numerous shops and restaurants. Other local attractions include The Cotswold Woollen Weavers', The Cotswold Wildlife Park, The Cotswold Water Park, Buscot Park and Kelmscott Manor. Enjoy plane spotting from the neighbouring RAF base Brize Norton, home to the RAF supporting UK overseas operations and exercises.

The maximum occupancy for this property is 8 guests. Infants do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions the occupancy can only be exceeded by 1 additional infant (aged 2 or under)

On street parking is available on the road in front of the property
1 travel cot and 1 highchair are available on request (please bring your own linen for the travel cot, as this is not provided)

Please be aware that this is a period property with steep, winding staircases and low ceilings with restricted head height in bedrooms 2 and 4 and also in part of the kitchen
The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk
No smoking or vaping is permitted throughout the property

Security Deposit

A security deposit of £250 is required for bookings at this property. We reserve the right to charge an amount up to the value of the security deposit to your payment card up to 7 days after your departure date. In some circumstances, we may require a pre-authorisation of the security deposit amount against your payment card 7 days prior to your arrival date, which will be released 7 days after your departure date, providing no damage is reported or excessive cleaning is required. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival.

We appreciate the cottage was old and quirky but we should have been told it was unsuitable for the elderly! My 86 yr old mom struggled to get up the stairs as they were old, sloping and had no handrail. There were large black flies continuously flying around in all the rooms. The carbon monoxide monitor didn't work and when we got in there was a worrying smell which we reported but it wasn't investigated.. We didn't see a smoke alarm. There was a hole in the floor under the bunk bed and also water damage to the wall in the same room. Lovely old cottage tho in a great part of the Cotswolds.

There is a virtual display of the property on the website and in the finer details it also states that this is a period property with steep, winding staircase and low ceilings. We have passed your feedback onto the property owner, he takes all feedback seriously and will ask the property mananger to carry out a routine check of the carbon monoxide testers as a matter of urgency. He apologies about the flies at the property, they are cluster flies which live outside during the summer months in the fields but when the weather turns colder they seek warmth inside and live in roof voids and window frames. He will ask the property manager to eradicate the flies. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Gassons View is in a great location in the quaint village of Filkins which has a beautiful church and pub and a superb woollen mill. The property itself was good value for money. It had a large, bright, well-equipped and modern kitchen/dining area which we all liked and suited our needs very well. The lounge was spacious and comfortable, but more on this in a minute. It was notably cheaper than other properties of the same size. This is possibly because it had become rather shabby in places, for example, the front of the house gave a poor impression, with peeling paint on the door and an overgrown garden. Although the house felt clean, the soft furnishings in the lounge were rather stained and grubby. The shower downstairs was backing up, but this was attended to quickly by our contact, who was lovely. The damp on the wall in the bunk room is pretty bad and is unacceptable, I notice from previous reviews that Stay Cotswold have promised action on this, but as the owners apparently haven't yet acted this need following up urgently. Overall, this was a great property in a lovely location, but would suggest that maybe it needs a bit of TLC to bring it back up to the standard it might have been (as suggested by much earlier reviews).
