Barnsley Cottage is a charming Grade II listed, large Cotswold holiday home, which sleeps ten guests, in five well-appointed bedrooms, with three bathrooms. The ground floor has been cleverly designed with socialising in mind, you have two elegantly presented reception rooms, a stylish open plan kitchen/dining room which leads out into the beautiful garden, boasting manicured lawn areas, a patio and plenty of outdoor seating, providing a wonderful space to enjoy all year round. The contemporary interior is complemented with characterful features including exposed Cotswold stone walls, original beams, flagstone floors and a large wood burning stove in the sitting room. Barnsley Cottage is a dog friendly holiday home, suitable for three medium sized dogs.

StayCotswold is a marketing agent and therefore does not own any of the cottages listed on our website. In terms of cleaning and maintenance, the properties within our portfolio are managed by a third party property manager or the property owner – your pre-arrival email will contain confirmation and contact details for the person managing your property. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.

For bookings commencing more than 8 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 8 weeks prior to arrival.

All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.

Location Information

Barnsley Cottage is located in the heart of the picturesque village of Barnsley, home to one of the best pubs in the Cotswolds, 'The Boot', as well as the well renowned Barnsley House hotel, offering fine dining and spa facilities. There is also the Crown at Ampney Crucis, The Stump on the Fosse road and The New Inn at Quenington.

For your shopping essentials, there is The Organic Farmshop located on Abbey home farm, Burford road, GL7 5HF or a local Co-op/petrol station is just 3 miles away on the roundabout & junction b4425.
For a wider selection of gastropubs, tearooms, independent shops or larger superstores such as Tesco, Waitrose, Aldi, Lidl, why not visit the largest Cotswold market town in the region, Cirencester, only four miles away and well worth a visit!.
Barnsley sits in the heart of the North Cotswolds and is perfectly placed for visiting the much loved towns and villages of Bibury (one of the most famous Cotswold villages!), Chedworth, Burford, Stroud, Tetbury, Nailsworth, Cheltenham and Gloucester, all of which are within a 30 minutes drive of the property. Further afield places, such as Bath, Blenheim Palace, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon are also easily accessible for day trips.

The maximum occupancy for this property is 10 guests. Infants do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions the occupancy can only be exceeded by 2 additional infants
Some of the bedrooms have flexible configurations, see description above, so please state your preference when placing your booking. Should no preference be stated, the flexible rooms will be made up as three super king size beds
Hen, Stag and other same sex groups are not permitted

Security Deposit

A security deposit of £250 is required for bookings at this property. This amount will be pre-authorised on your credit card 7 days prior to your arrival date, providing no damage is reported the pre-authorisation will be released 5 days after your departure. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival.

We really enjoyed our stay at Barnsley cottage. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need for cooking. And the welcome hamper was a nice touch. It's rare to find accommodation with so many bathrooms - great for bigger groups. Beds were all comfy and big! The snug had plenty of toys to entertain, which my son loved. Property was quite busy in terms of nicknacks, could do with a declutter and in some areas a dust in would be useful decor looked a bit tired in some areas. Lovely locations for walks and amenities nearby. Host was quick to respond and answer questions. Would recommend!

We stayed in Barnsley Cottage for New Year, it was beautiful querky and cosy, lovely village pub across the road, a quick drive to Bibury and Cirencester recommended. We shall return in the Summer as wonderful for dogs too. We had 6 guests with us too come along Thank you

Barnsley Cottage is a beautiful house in a brilliant location. The house is picturesque, in traditional Cotswold stone and in a pretty village with a lovely pub within a couple of minutes walk. There are good amenities within a 10 minute drive in Cirencester. We were a multigenerational; family coming together to celebrate an early Christmas together. The space and layout were excellent - a large kitchen table to eat around, 2 living spaces meaning the children had somewhere to play / watch TV, a spacious and comfortable lounge with 3 decent sofas so we could all sit together easily. The bedrooms and bathrooms are as described and again, the layout was excellent. Beds were comfortable and the house warm and cosy with additional heaters supplied, where needed. We made use of the fire, which was perfect, and straightforward with additional logs being supplied. It was so appreciated that the house had been decorated for Christmas as was the offer of early check in/late check out. On the downside, we felt the cottage was very cluttered and there were a lot of personal belongings left throughout the house, which we wouldn't expect from a holiday let. It felt as though we were staying in someone's house, who had vacated for our stay, rather than a professional let. As a result of the sheer volume of clutter, belongings and 'stuff' in every room it made the place feel less clean than it may have done if it were cleared and minimised. I need to point out that important areas like bedding, bathrooms and kitchen were clean, but more generally the house felt dusty/not well looked after. There was a big stain on one bedroom floor, covered with a portion of carpet, which should be attended to. The family bathroom could do with some improvements to smarten it up (sealant/grout/shower area) and my suggestion would just be to clear the clutter, have a really good sort out and present it more akin to a professional holiday let, rather than family home. We are owner / holiday letters ourselves and keep all our belongings in locked cupboards / unused, locked rooms to counteract this. The above feedback did not detract from what was a really, really super stay with a very welcoming, accommodating and helpful owner. We hope that they may take on board the feedback and look at these areas to improve things even further. It was a 5* stay, let down by these factors. I still would not hesitate to recommend the house to others wishing to stay in this area.
