The elegant world of Regency-era romance and grand country estates has captured the imagination of viewers around the globe!
A Bridgerton Day Out in the Cotswolds
While Bridgerton is best known for its grand London streets, the Cotswolds has played a significant part in the hit Netflix show. Beyond the bustle of ballrooms, it’s the English countryside that provides the great estates, sweeping gardens, and sense of grandeur that defines the show’s upper-class fantasy.
Which Cotswold Locations Were Used In Bridgerton?
Blenheim Palace, Woodstock
One of the most notable connections between the ‘Ton’ and the Cotswolds is Blenheim Palace. Both Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte featured the Oxfordshire country house, known as Buckingham House for the shows. Key filming locations at Blenheim Palace include the Water Terraces, Long Library, Great Hall & Saloon and the Great Court.
It’s believed Blenheim Palace was chosen for it’s connection to Queen Charlotte and King George III, giving it an authentic setting.
Badminton House, Badminton
Deep within the Gloucetsershire Cotswolds lies the stately home Badminton House. Over various seasons it has been used as a location for multiple properties, including The Duke of Hasting and Lady Danbury’s houses, The Founding Hospital and elements of other estates.
Given its size, Badminton House is perfect to act as multiple locations. Offering architectural beauty and stunning surroundings, it was the perfect choice to represent several backgrounds for the show.
South of the Cotswolds AONB lies the beautiful city of Bath. Known for its Roman-built baths, the city is surrounded by the stunning region. Although not technically in the Cotswolds, many still consider the area to be included within the region. Outside of London, Bath is the most popular place for Bridgerton filming locations, which we’ve rounded up below.
Abbey Green, Bath
The cobblestone square features heavily in early series, with characters visiting the Modeste dress shop. The show also showed another space of Abbey Green to act as Covent Garden, London.
No.1 Royal Crescent
A short walk from the centre of Bath you’ll find the iconic Royal Crescent. The exterior of the Georgian building No.1 Royal Crescent was used as the Featherington’s family home.
The Assembly Rooms and The Guildhall
High society balls are a large part of the show, with The Assembly Rooms and The Guildhall proving a backdrop to many of these throughout the series.
The Holburne Museum
This Grade I listed building is now home to a collection of art, however the exterior of the building was used as Lady Danbury’s home in the hit show.
Streets of Bath
The Royal Crescent, Bath Street, Edward Street, Beauford Square and Trim Street were also featured in the hit Netflix show. The impressive cobblestone streets and stunning buildings make the perfect backdrop for the regency era show.
