Horseshoe Cottage is a charming Cotswold holiday home which sleeps five guests, in three cosy bedrooms, with one bathroom. This 19th century former cowman's cottage has a rich history and an abundance of retained character features. These have been seamlessly combined with high end furnishings, contemporary fixtures and stylish decor to create a wonderful home away from home. Many of the rooms overlook Lower Swell's village green and war memorial. At the front of the property is a beautiful English cottage garden complete with apple trees and a comfortable seating area, perfect to enjoy throughout the year.

This three bedroom holiday cottage in Lower Swell, just one mile from Stow-on-the-Wold, is perfectly suited for those looking to get together with family and friends, exploring the local countryside and eateries. The Cotswold holiday accommodation is laid out as follows:

Booking & Payment

StayCotswold is a marketing agent and therefore does not own any of the cottages listed on our website. In terms of cleaning and maintenance, the properties within our portfolio are managed by a third party property manager or the property owner – your pre-arrival email will contain confirmation and contact details for the person managing your property. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.

For bookings commencing more than 8 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 8 weeks prior to arrival.

All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.

Location Information

Horseshoe is a dog friendly cottage which sits in the centre of the small village of Lower Swell in the North Cotswolds. This picturesque village benefits from a popular country inn, The Golden Ball, which offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere and serves hearty meals and local ale all year round. Lower Swell is surrounded by stunning countryside with a number of footpaths and cycle routes available from the doorstep. Just a mile away is the bustling market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, home to a variety of independent shops selling local produce and plenty of eateries. We would highly recommend a visit to The Old Butchers or The Old Stocks Inn, both offering fabulous Cotswold food and drink menus.

For your shopping essentials, there is a Co-op and a Tesco in Stow-on-the-Wold.
Lower Swell sits in the heart of the North Cotswolds and is perfectly placed for visiting Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Campden and Cheltenham, as well as the picture postcard villages of Broadway, Lower Slaughter and Blockley.

The maximum occupancy for this property is 5 guests. Infants do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions the occupancy can only be exceeded by 1 additional infant (aged 2 or under)
Bed linen and towels are provided (duvets and pillows are hypoallergenic)

1 travel cot, 1 highchair and 1 stair gate are available on request (please bring your own linen for the travel cot, as this is not provided)

Security Deposit

A security deposit of £150 is required for bookings at this property. This amount will be pre-authorised on your credit card 7 days prior to your arrival date and, providing no damage is reported, the pre-authorisation will be released 7 days after your departure. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival.

Thanks for yummy treats left on arrival. Very thoughtful Really enjoyed our stay. Location was great. Staff really kind and helpful. Cottage very sweet and characterful. Struggled a little with stairs as very steep. Always good to show a picture. We travelled with our adult special needs daughter and had to use the stair gate at night. Thanks for the gate it really helped.

The cottage is in a great location, just a mile out of Stow, the road outside the cottage can be quite busy and noisy at certain times of day but that did not spoil our stay there. Parking was never an issue either. We found the beds in the cottage very comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we required. All in all we had a great few days there and nice to have a pub just a minutes walk away

We stayed at Horseshoe Cottage during a recent visit to the Cotswolds. Location of the property was good, 5 minutes drive into Stow on the Wold and easy access to other villages nearby. Are only issue was cleanliness (or lack thereof). Before booking this cottage, I read reviews about the cottage that mentioned it was not very clean, so on booking I did message agency to make sure that cottage was properly cleaned prior to our arrival due to illness/allergies, but sadly this request was not taken into account. There were lots of spiders/cobwebs about, tabletops were dusty, drawers were dirty, windows ledges were filthy, and there was alot of mould on one of the walls in the living room, washing machine full of hair etc. After our stay I did message the agency and provided pictures of all that we found and unfortunately they were not very forthcoming either, and was just told that I should have contacted the property manager to send a cleaning crew round whilst we were there, which was besides the point. No one wants to spend a holiday worrying about cleaners coming in. Having paid an agency over £1200 for a few days stay, you would think that they would ensure that their properties were in a clean condition in the first place.

His contact details were provided to you at the beginning of your stay, and we do ask our guests to contact them to try and rectify any issues for you to enjoy your stay, and this will be arranged at a convenient time. Horseshoe Cottage is a 19th century former cowman's cottage which has a rich history and an abundance of retained character features, unfortunately cobwebs will appear in the cottage as soon as they have been cleaned away by the housekeeping team. We have passed your feedback onto the property owner to address these issues with her property manager and housekeeping team. She has informed us that as a gesture of goodwill she has sent you a small refund for the issues you experienced. We hope you will return to the Cotswolds soon.
