Overview

Millham Cottages is a luxury Cotswold holiday cottage near Stow-on-the-Wold which sleeps 8+2 guests, in four bedrooms complete with original beams, and the +2 option being a double sofa bed in the living room. Formerly two farm cottages and converted into one property, Millham Cottages has been in the owner's family for over a century and they have lovingly restored the property and so many of its original features from exposed wooden beams to inglenook fireplaces. The cottage is additionally home to many of their unique family heirlooms. On the ground floor are spacious and well-appointed rooms, with two wood burning stoves for cosy winter breaks and outside a large patio with plenty of seating for summer stays. The cottage has the added bonus of an electric charging point and off street parking.

This four bedroom holiday cottage nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds is perfectly suited to those looking for a luxury break with friends and family. The accommodation is laid out as follows:

Booking & Payment

StayCotswold is a marketing agent and therefore does not own any of the cottages listed on our website. In terms of cleaning and maintenance, the properties within our portfolio are managed by a third party property manager or the property owner – your pre-arrival email will contain confirmation and contact details for the person managing your property. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.

For bookings commencing more than 8 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 8 weeks prior to arrival.

All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.

Location Information

Located in Broadwell, a mile from Stow-on-the-Wold, Millham Cottages is a superbly located cottage to base yourselves when looking to explore the heart of the Cotswolds. Broadwell is home to The Fox Inn pub, great for a local pint and from time to time, used for the filming of Father Brown and there are plenty of walking and cycling routes from your doorstep. Enjoy a visit to nearby Daylesford Farm, The Cotswold Distillery or Batsford Arboretum during your stay for a taste of what the Cotswolds has to offer.

For your shopping essentials, there is a Tesco on the outskirts of Stow, just five minutes from the cottage.

This cottage is full of character with low beams in the bedrooms and sloping ceilings in the master bedroom and bathroom
Three stone steps lead up to the property front door and there is a further step up into the main living area
As there is a tiered garden, children should be supervised when outside and guests with limited mobility should take particular care
Stairs lead up from the first floor landing directly into the eaves bedroom
The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk
No smoking or vaping is permitted throughout the property

Things to Note...

The maximum occupancy for this property is 10 guests. Infants do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions the occupancy can only be exceeded by 2 additional infants
Hen and Stag parties are not permitted, though other same sex groups can enquire
Commercial and work related bookings can enquire
Events are not permitted without prior consent
A security deposit is required at this property
Check in is from 17:00 and check out is by 10:00
The Stow Horse Fair is held twice a year, typically on the Thursday closest to 12th May and the Thursday closest to 24th October, however, we would recommend checking the exact date ahead of placing your booking. This is a traditional fair for gypsies and travelling people to meet up and trade which dates back to 1476 when its Charter was granted. Stow is very busy for a day or two before and after each fair, and a number of shops, pubs and restaurants are closed. Whilst many visitors enjoy the colour and vibrancy associated with the fairs, other visitors prefer to avoid Stow on these dates

Security Deposit

A security deposit of £250 is required for bookings at this property. This amount will be pre-authorised on your credit card 7 days prior to your arrival date, providing no damage is reported the pre-authorisation will be released 5 days after your departure. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival.

My wife and I (and more recently our son) have been coming to the Cotswolds for years, often staying in or around the central and northern reaches such as Stow, Blockley, Chipping Campden and Weston-sub-Edge. We've often mentioned how lovely it is to our friends the Wood family, and recently, they said: "You're always going on about how great the Cotswolds are... where IS this place and will we ever get to see it?". It turned out, amazingly, that aside from visiting friends much further south near Fairford, they had never been to the northern part of the region (which - shhh - we love a lot more anyway... don't tell 'em down in Lechlade). So we hatched a plan to spend a few days during the Easter school hols showing them around some of our favourite bits centred on the northern Cotswolds. A couple of years back, we passed through Broadwell and were delighted to have discovered another fabulous Cotswold village just off the beaten track, but with excellent access to the facilities in Stow. So we were really amazed to discover Millham Cottages, not only because it looked like a decent place to stay in Broadwell, but also that it was big enough to house the three of us and the four Wood family members too. Any halfway-decent holiday rent might have sufficed for our purposes, but we all felt Millham Cottages went the extra mile. It was a superbly well-equipped and comfortable base to explore the surrounding area. Being rained in on one afternoon was absolutely no chore at all (we had a board game marathon around the big dinner table), we had all we needed to cook lovely dinners in the evening, and we could reach everything else we wanted to see outside in under an hour by car. We walked to Stow and back, around Broadway and up to the tower, up and down Dover's Hill into Chipping Campden, across to Saintbury Church, past Snowhill and over the ridge to The Mount at Stanway. We even fitted in an afternoon's shopping and cinema trip to Cheltenham via the steam railway and its recent extension to Broadway. And we discovered the delight that is Alfonso's Gelateria on the square in Stow... their sorbet is to die for! Not bad for a four-night introductory stay. At the end of the week, we asked all the children if they would consider coming to the Cotswolds again, and they said they would... but only if they could come with us, and stay in Millham Cottages again. I don't think my review needs to say much more, really... We'll be back!
